Vickie and I made a spur of the moment decision to go fishing early Sat. evening and wanted to go somewhere we hadn't been yet. We decided on Big Lake in Allegan County (it's southwest of Shelbyville, northeast of Allegan). Got on the water just after 8:00 and fished till dark (and then waited for the ramp). I got on 16" in the boat, lost 2 others bigger than that (one was a bucketmouth for sure!). Between the two of us we got 9 fish in the boat... varied from 10" to 16". Caught them all on babybass colored senko style baits. Actually, she was using a senko, I was using a Strike King 3x and getting more strikes than she was. This is a pretty weedy lake, especially in the shallows and along the drop offs. I could see it being a tough hole to fish later in the summer.... got a lot of weeds in my Merc 50 and had to clean them out of the minn kota twice. I'd like to try this lake again and get their much earlier... we only fished to spots really... and there looked to be some other places worthy of a cast or 3.

Oh yeah, and we started out the hard way... both Vickie and I are alergic to bee stings (her more than I, but they do me no good nonetheless!!) and as she is backing the boat off the trailer I notice a bee on her shirt... well, she kinda "flicks" it off towards the water and it lands between the gunwhale and the pasenger seat. Oh well, it will probably fly out, right? NOT. After I push the boat off shore, I jump in barefoot and step right on the dang thing! I jumped straight up onto the seat!! Lucky for me it only got a quick poke at me... she quickly killed it with her shoe and the stinger and sack were still in the bee. LUCKY for me.:xzicon_sm I still dug around with my lockback to see if anything was in my foot... nothing. 2 minutes later I had a 16 incher in the boat. :D
