wandered down to sterling..temps running 69 to 72 in the bay. our best luck came in 15 to 17 foot.we took an assortment white perch, white bass, undersize eyes and a few 16 inch + eyes...and oh yes one of JImbobways 'ToledoTrout' all the fish came on lures, with a large size orange and gold wally diver being most productive. Upon cleaning the keepers, we found the stomachs to be empty;with the exception of one eye.he seemed to have apenchant for rocks..yes rocks, he had 2 stones he had swallowed...lol.....trolling against the wave action as opposed to 'with' it seemed to be 3 times more productive.

Bill, thanks for the report. Walleye eating rocks huh, kind of weird I suppose but not surprising. I sure would hate to pass that dang thing.

Bill, sound like you guys did ok. Sorry I missed your call, my phone was in my pocket, and switched to analog mode for some reason. Never rang, but buzzed me with your message. Since it was in analog mode, it did not store your number, so I couldn't call you back. We hailed you on 68 a couple times, but you must have been a ways out. Disadvantage of having a handheld.

Anyway, my little guy, and a buddy made it there just after 6pm. I saw your rig, so we headed out. Set up in 15' just off the rock wall at Sterling, and almost immediately hit a small eye on a Model 24a Bomber. After that it was dead slow until about 8:30 pm when I got brave and decided to run sliders. Hit a 8# sheephead on a perch stinger almost as soon as I dropped it overboard. Proceeded to slay the sheep on that spoon. Switched to a differernt color and picked up a couple small walleye. Throw in a couple more small white bass, and we had a near complete run of species, but no keepers. We came off the water about 10 pm. We wandered as far as 19', but marked very few fish. Would have run around a bit to find some, if we had a bit bigger boat, but we weren't bored at any rate. Ryan told my wife we caught Nemo, and he was plenty happy wiht the fishing.

Hey Todd, we were hollerin on ch. 7 for you!...lol.........geez erie sure is a case for lure size don't matter...wench took a 7 inch white perch on an 8 inch deep diving taildancer..and i took a 9 inch eye on the 7 inchdeep little ripper..yet the bigger eyes and sheep hit lures half that size  was kinda of a kick, the one wally put on an aerial display like he was imitating a smallie... Hey Do they pick up many bronzebacks in brest bay?

Bill,
I forgot all about the frs until about 9:30. I turned it on and gave a holler, but by that time, we were way out there, and probably didn't reach you guys. Since getting the marine radio, I tend to forget about the frs, since the marine had longer range, and I was in a hurry to get the boat in and get fishing. At any rate, my not-so-secret, secret spot really let me down last night.

Yep, there are a lot of smallies in that area. Usually in the shallower water. I've caught some nice ones right off the Sterling beach in spring. Had 2 bass guys follow us back into the harbor last night. Not only did they catch smallies, but they picked up 3 nice eyes, one was 30" hawg. All up shallow on the bottom.
