couldnt locate my original thread but it was sometime last year wild bill and i picked up this 'glass galaxy boat with a mercuiser 120 i/o 18.5' the fiberglass is in excellent shape and the motor runs like a champ but the transom was absolutely rotted like garden mulch. well we made some major progress recently and have the new transom bolted in heres a few progress pics. heres how it looked last year

yesterday we started cutting and sanding the new transom two sheets of 3/4 plywood had to be laminated with epoxy resin

laid down the resin let it tack and glued it up to sit overnite to cure

after 24 hours we coated the now laminated transom for glue up in the actual boat

heres the boats stripped down transom

then we set it in and ran threaded rod thru 2x4's to clamp it down we will let it cure for prolly 4 days or more

so next weekend we should be able to start glassing the transom in to tie it to the boat then replace some stringers hope to update this soon!

nice work glad to see you working on it from the inside some people cut the back off and then repair it . I think that make for a sloppy workmanship. your way is a little harder BUT the end job is first class . I also remember the posts from last fall. good luck and please keep the pictures coming. steve k8vol

Wow... what a difference. I had a transom put into a 81 Galaxy but the wood core was only a partial. Goes to show how the changed the workmanship over the years on the newer models. Bet it was fun getting the old wood out huh?
