Very good if you don't try to eat the big ones. Be sure you filet the fish and in doing so, remove the skin. Put the meat in a pan of cold water and salt liberally......place in refrigerator over night....when ready to cook, rinse off salt, dredge in a mix of flour, pepper, and salt. Fry. Watch for bones... good eating.

A lot of folks won't eat bass, but they can be very good, especially in the earlest part of the season when the water is still cool.

I've only eaten one, before, and was surprised how good it was. we just fried it up. I'l never eat one again. There are better fish, and I hate seeing bass die.

Personally, I prefer walleye, then bluegill, and perch...in that order. Bass would have to come in 4th, which still isn't bad. Some folks prefer trout and salmon, but I've never quite acquired the taste.

In terms of having a mud vein, I know certain fish do, but the only bass I know has one is a Striper....and true, best removed if eaten. Just have never run across a mud vein in a large or smallmouth.

Ok;; yes I eat a few bass. I prefer bluegill, walleye or perch also. I let a lot of bass go because I like to have a chance to catch them again.
