*: You are on channel 1 with webmaster, jayduck, barney.
MOOSECOP: Evenin, everybody.
webmaster: Barney its been going pretty good, MooseCop the DNR officer has just arrived!
webmaster: Good evening!
barney: Hi Moosecop
MOOSECOP: Jay, read your post re: Maple River. Did you read my comments?
MOOSECOP: Hi, web. I left you e-mail re: bear drawing. You may want to post the info to clear up any confusion.
webmaster: I posted it in our Black Bear forum.
jayduck: Yes thanks I just caught a look at that before I joined thanks.
MOOSECOP: Cool.
webmaster: Barney did you have a question about tresspassing?
barney: Moosecop what is the best way to turn people in for trespassing If I don't know their names?
webmaster: MooseCop did you read the article from the FREEP about TB in deer in New Zealand?
barney: Plate numbers off of vehicles?
MOOSECOP: I didn't get a chance yet, but I intend to. Sounds interesting.
*: You are on channel 1 with jayduck, barney, MOOSECOP.
MOOSECOP: Barney, if you can get a plate number, we've got the person. The plate number is probably one of the most important pieces of information.
MOOSECOP: Write down everything you can, ie color of vehicle, direction of travel, number of occupants, occupant descriptions, etc.
barney: If there is state land that is land locked by private property is there any legal way to get to it?

Our regular chats are on Thursday and Saturday evenings at 8pm.  Join us!

*: RealDcoy just logged on to Jabber Chat.
webmaster: Do you know of any efforts to beef up the tresspass laws in the state?
barney: Then call you?
*: RealDcoy just entered this channel.
*: Welcome to The Michigan Sportsman Campfire --- Webmaster.
*: Type HELP to see a list of available chat commands.
*: You are on channel 1 with webmaster, jayduck, barney, MOOSECOP.
MOOSECOP: Only if you have permission from a landowner. Landlocked state land is a problem.
RealDcoy: quack quack.......sploooosh
RealDcoy: Howdy again
MOOSECOP: My lab pup just retrieved, Dcoy! hahahahaha
webmaster: It would be nice if you're one of the landowners around it :)
RealDcoy: I got the info for ya WEB. I'll e-mail later.
barney: I own the land around it.
RealDcoy: Yuck.........dog slobber
MOOSECOP: Barney, beginning in 2001 (I think) the trespass law is going to allow several things to happen. One is restitution for the landowners, and I believe we can seize gear.
barney: people are going through me to get to it.
MOOSECOP: If you have problems, call us at 1-800-292-7800.
webmaster: Yeah, barney allright except for that problem with tresspass.
MOOSECOP: Do you have the property posted?
barney: My dad has the same problem . He has 60 acres that is surrounded by stateland.
barney: Yes Two years ago I watched a guy shoot the signs down.
MOOSECOP: Web, is there a way that I can scroll to see previous messages? They're flying off my screen.
RealDcoy: To be "properly" posted, don't the signs need to be pretty big? I thought that the normal ones ( i.e. 4-5 inches) were actually too small by law.
barney: I have as much money in signs as I do property.
webmaster: No, once they are gone, they are gone. I am recording this session though so people who miss it can read it later.
*: Trout just logged on to Jabber Chat.
MOOSECOP: Barney, we have the same problem with our property in the UP. Best thing is to keep replacing the signs. Part of the deal is the signs are your property. It is illegal to cause malicious destructio
*: Trout just entered this channel.
webmaster: Howdy trout.
barney: Thanks
Trout: Hi guys
MOOSECOP: Barney, I'll have to check on the letter size requirements. If y'all could hold on to questions for two minutes, I'll brb......
RealDcoy: I don't think it's the letter size, I think it's total square inches of the sign.
webmaster to Trout: what
webmaster to Trout: what's on your mind tonight?
MOOSECOP: 324.73104 Removing, defacing, or destroying sign or poster.
Trout: Nothing really yet just finished paper work
MOOSECOP: You can check this law out on our website: www.dnr.state.mi.us
barney: The signs I have are 12" by 12" steel signs. With the big letters that say Posted ect. Thanks for the info moosecop.
webmaster: So what's the low down on the new bear lottery rules?
RealDcoy: I'm sure thats big enough. I brought it up cause I was told my signs were too small last year.
MOOSECOP: Back. Letter height on signs must be at least 1".
Trout: Moosecop who enforces river pollution?
MOOSECOP: Sorry guys. I think I missed some of the conversation here.
webmaster: Yeah, trout that's a good one too with the recent news on the Clinton River.
MOOSECOP: Depends on the type of pollution. Littering is DNR. Waste, etc. is DEQ.
MOOSECOP: Lowdown on bear lottery rules is quite extensive. There is a new cumulative preference point point system.
MOOSECOP: Hunters receive a preference point for each year they did not receive a llicense.
MOOSECOP: You can either apply for a harvest tag OR bank a preference point.
webmaster: Yeah, from the info that I posted it looked quite detailed. Didn't have time to read it yet.
webmaster: That's a neat idea...being able to bank if you don't choose to hunt that year.
MOOSECOP: Licenses for a hunting period are issued in descending order of total preference points accumulated.
Trout: I saw the post on bear hunting looks like it will work .
MOOSECOP: etc., etc., etc.
*: jayduck just melted into a meaningless puddle of ooze and is now gone.
Trout: What if the antis apply and don't hunt?
MOOSECOP: I think so. At least credit is being given to folks who are unsuccesful now.
webmaster: That's a real good question Trout!
*: jayduck just logged on to Jabber Chat.
MOOSECOP: If antis apply, they can draw permits. Unfortunately, we can't distinguish between who is a hunter and who isn't. However, it is illegal to obtain a permit under false pretenses
Trout: They bought leases to trap out East and didn't use them
MOOSECOP: ie, stating they took a hunter safety class when they didn't.
*: jayduck is not on this channel. Try whispering instead.
RealDcoy: MOOSE, can just about anything be used as bait while fishing? I saw a show last week with sucker fishing where they used cigarette butts, and styrofam cups. Surely some of that pollutes our rivers.
MOOSECOP: There are several variations of bait, and these items are not illegal. I saw a guy that said his beer cans in the lake were to "chum" the fish. He got paperwork to the District Court :)
*: jayduck just logged on to Jabber Chat.
*: jayduck just entered this channel.
*: Welcome to The Michigan Sportsman Campfire --- Webmaster.
*: Type HELP to see a list of available chat commands.
*: You are on channel 1 with webmaster, barney, MOOSECOP, RealDcoy, Trout.
MOOSECOP: Otherwise, think about what bait is made of. Plastic, styrofoam, paper, etc. As long as it doesn't constitute littering, it is legal.
barney: Sounds like a winner.
MOOSECOP: What's up Jay. Is your college roommate kicking you off of the computer?
webmaster Whispers to you: welcome back, got any questions for MooseCop?
*: Your whisper was sent to jayduck: welcome back, got any questions for MooseCop?
MOOSECOP: hahahaha
RealDcoy: Here comes Mich-out-of-doors
Trout: I think you have to show intent to litter
jayduck: my own falt I closed the wrong window.
*: hypox just logged on to Jabber Chat.
webmaster Whispers to you: at least I get that show at the same time you do!
*: Your whisper was sent to RealDcoy: at least I get that show at the same time you do!
*: hypox just entered this channel.
MOOSECOP: Any interesting topics tonight, dec?
*: Welcome to The Michigan Sportsman Campfire --- Webmaster.
*: Type HELP to see a list of available chat commands.
*: You are on channel 1 with webmaster, barney, MOOSECOP, RealDcoy, Trout, jayduck.
RealDcoy: Hey ! They are doing a story on website interesting to sportsman !!
MOOSECOP: Littering is not a specific intent crime. It is decriminalized, so intent does not play into the picture.
MOOSECOP: However, discretion plays a big part in enforcement.
Trout: ok
RealDcoy: Looks like maybe the GL sportfishing council site
MOOSECOP: I know the president of the GL Sportfishing. Great guy. He has property in Baraga County.
MOOSECOP: Pro youth in fishing.
webmaster: Wow, if I could only get them to mention this site!
MOOSECOP: All it takes is a letter or phone call, web. I'm very impressed with this site. I visit on a regular basis!!!
RealDcoy: Hey Moose,Dan Donarski wrote a letter about the governor lifting the silence rule about tribal fishing. Any news?
MOOSECOP: Haven't heard any news on this end. I'll be seeing one of our lieutenants that is on the negotiating team. I'll check with him tomorrow, and I'll share whatever I can.
*: People online now (all channels): webmaster, barney, MOOSECOP, RealDcoy, Trout, jayduck, hypox.
RealDcoy: Great.
MOOSECOP: The DNR should be doing a press release if there are any changes. Keep an eye open.
*: birddog just logged on to Jabber Chat.
Trout: Moose cop did you register on the forums
*: birddog just entered this channel.
*: Welcome to The Michigan Sportsman Campfire --- Webmaster.

*: You are on channel 1 with webmaster, barney, MOOSECOP, RealDcoy, Trout, jayduck, hypox.
MOOSECOP: Yes I did. As MOOSECOP.
birddog: Hi every one
barney: Moose can my son (age 7) bring his BB gun into the woods with me while I am hunting?
webmaster Whispers to you: Welcome, MooseCop has joined us again this evening.
RealDcoy: Also, do you know if Boardman lake here in T.C. is open to fishing? I keep seeing people out there, but is above the upstream limit. Isn't it "once a stream, always a stream"?
MOOSECOP: Hey, birddog. What's the word?
birddog: Bears
MOOSECOP: Barney, your son may carry is BB gun in the field. What an awesome way to get him involved in hunting! I started with my plastic M-16 rifle w/ my dad!!!
*: People online now (all channels): webmaster, barney, MOOSECOP, RealDcoy, Trout, jayduck, hypox, birddog.
MOOSECOP: Once a river, always a river holds true. Not sure if the Boardman has an exception. Let me check, brb.....
webmaster: Birddog, I posted the new about new bear lottery rules in your forum.
birddog: moosecop i found a bear in its den when i was at work last week i about stepped on it should i tell the dnr?
MOOSECOP: What county, bird?
*: Your whisper was sent to birddog: I think he's looking up info on the boardman.
birddog: thanks webmaster
birddog: gogebic
birddog: its in a brush pile
MOOSECOP: Yes. You can contact the guys at the Crystal Falls Office. Doug Wagner works on bear research. 906-875-6622.
birddog: I'm a logger and had to leave trees stand so i would not wake it
MOOSECOP: They may be interested in tagging the bear for research purposes.
RealDcoy: They are talking about the Det. news story about wolf hunting.
webmaster: Yeah, that story about hunting wolves they ran was pretty irresponsible.
hypox: hello everyone!!
RealDcoy: There's my buddy Jimmy Gretzinger..
birddog: Hi hypox
RealDcoy: Maybe I can send him an e-mail about this site for you WEB
MOOSECOP: Can't find anything about the Boardman, except for the designated trout stream stuff. You may want to contact the Cadillac Office and ask for Lt. Tim Burke. 616-775-9727
webmaster Whispers to you: That would be great!
*: Your whisper was sent to RealDcoy: That would be great!
Trout: Iwho wrote the story about wolves?
webmaster: Don't know who wrote the story in the News.
RealDcoy: I already have Burke's email. I had sort a problem with a CO here on the last day of Duck season.
MOOSECOP: Bird, I stepped in a den during a snowmobile accident investigation across from Tioga Park near Michigamme. What a treat! Lots of steam and hair!!!
MOOSECOP: Sorry to hear that, Deek.
birddog: mossecop if i would have made one more step i would have been right on top of it
webmaster: Its really surprising to me that the bear can stay as warm as they do in those dens.
MOOSECOP: It seems that problems with COs always make the headlines, as with anything. You rarely hear about the good ones.
RealDcoy: No big deal. Just a misunderstandin.
birddog: i didnt mess with it figuring that if i would wake it it would die
MOOSECOP: What's even more amazing is how the cubs can stay so warm, born hairless and all!!!
webmaster: I guess all the snow in the UP is a good insulator.
hypox: it wouldn't die...would it?
birddog: we had a bear die 2 weeks ago that was out of its den
*: 1rhmf just logged on to Jabber Chat.

*: Welcome to The Michigan Sportsman Campfire --- Webmaster.
*: Type HELP to see a list of available chat commands.
*: You are on channel 1 with webmaster, barney, MOOSECOP, RealDcoy, Trout, jayduck, hypox, birddog.
MOOSECOP: Bears will sometimes wake up during the denning season, especially on a warm day. They don't truly hibernate. The bear wouldn't die, in all lieklihood.
birddog: it was a mateure male
hypox: i didn't think so
MOOSECOP: The bear could have been sick or diseased. I had one have a heart attack when a guy was training his hounds on it. The guy was freaked out.
webmaster Whispers to you: Welcome!
birddog: well then why did that bear die 2 weeks ago?
Trout: I would too
MOOSECOP: During a necropsy, the heart was discovered to be two times the normal size.
birddog: i think the dnr picked it up they where called
Trout: Parisites?
birddog: it was a good 300 lbs
Trout: Big one
MOOSECOP: Bears have very similar anatomy to humans, so it's hard to tell what had happened. I would suspect poaching at first glance, until I could prove otherwise. Like in Manistique 2 years ago.
Trout: Maybe too many donuts?
birddog: yup it was in my baiting territory to
MOOSECOP: Two cubs and the sow shot in the den.
Trout: Try the lowfat ones
birddog: then i wouldn't eat them lol
Trout: that happens too often
MOOSECOP: The bear was probably dreaming about the cream filled donuts and got hungry :)
birddog: did they get the people who shot them?
RealDcoy: MOOSE- Do you run into crow hunters at all? I would like to try it, but I don't think I would want to eat them.
MOOSECOP: Yes. Taxidermists from the Menominee area. They paid BIG TIME.
Trout: I remember three cubs being shot a long time ago
birddog: thats good they should
MOOSECOP: I have yet to check crow hunters while in the field. Not many in the UP. I hear they're very smart birds, and it is similar to duck hunting. Stealthy!
Trout: How much fine and time
birddog: moosecop can you use electronic callers for crows?
MOOSECOP: Not sure exactly on fine and time. I believe $1500.00 restitution per bear, mandatory jail, and loss of hunting privileges.
hypox: Moose, I was wondering what can be done, or if anything should be done about deer in the cities. I live in kalamazoo and there are tons of deer in this little woods behind my place
hypox: it seems like they are gonna starve
RealDcoy: Would it be legal for be to take birds and give them to someone doing wildlife rehabilitation? Obviously I can't just leave them for scavengers.
MOOSECOP: I'm checking on the electronic calls... brb
RealDcoy: Yes.....electronics for crows.
RealDcoy: (according to local CO here)
webmaster: That's a good question hypox, the situation is similar in Waterford where we were told due to a local ordinance that we could no longer bowhunt even though it was on 10 acres.
jayduck: Within the city Limits?
webmaster: The local police told us there was some local ordinance against it.
hypox: I just saw 16 deer tonight, and they are starting to look sick
webmaster Whispers to you: Where you talking to me?
hypox: yes in the citie limits
hypox: I think we need to be able to hunt them
webmaster: Yes, that was in Waterford city limits.
webmaster: On the border with, well I guess I don't want to say.
hypox: with bows
webmaster: yes, with bows.
RealDcoy: They are gonna have a 30 point buck on outdoor Wisconsin ! WOW>
webmaster: Real you get all the good shows up there :)
jayduck: I read an article about that, now I just have to remember where I put it.
*: You are on channel 1 with barney, MOOSECOP, RealDcoy, Trout, jayduck, hypox, birddog.
Trout: Here we go again
RealDcoy: Gotta love it..
webmaster: An article about what jayduck?
RealDcoy: Outdoor life Network is good too, except that LOTS of it is Canada fishing.
jayduck: Article about bowhunting in cities.
webmaster: Do you remember what it said?
hypox: I don't see why we shouldn't be able to hunt in citits
jayduck: more percicly subdivisions, No I don't recall exactly what it said.
jayduck: But I will keep my open for it.
webmaster: Well, we are not in a subdivision. Like I said on 10 acres.
Trout: Webmaster are you going to have a turkey contest?
RealDcoy: Anybody seeing turkey lately? I need to get over to Kalkaska and see if my buddies are there
*: People online now (all channels): webmaster, barney, MOOSECOP, RealDcoy, Trout, jayduck, hypox, birddog.
MOOSECOP: Still looking for the electronic calls. I want to say legal for crows, but I want to be 100%. brb...
webmaster: Trout, what kind of contest? Like biggest beard?
*: YpsiDave just logged on to Jabber Chat.
Trout: Freds on here

YpsiDave Whispers to you: Thanks. What is the major topic of the night?
*: Your whisper was sent to webmaster: Thanks. What is the major topic of the night?
RealDcoy: So far..
*: BigJim just logged off.
*: BigJim just logged off.
birddog: thats good to see that ,
RealDcoy: Moose, when do you expect the new fishing guides to be out?
MOOSECOP: Fishing guides should be out very soon. Licenses expire shortly, so I hope to see them out by mid Feb.
Trout: Has any one posted since ? about guides
MOOSECOP: Guys, I cant' find anything prohibiting the calls for crow. Only illegal for turkey and waterfowl.
webmaster: Ypsi, you got any questions for MooseCop?
Trout: Cancel ?
birddog: MOOSE when is the date set for applying for bear permits?
MOOSECOP: What did I miss, web?
YpsiDave: The only question that really pops into mind is "Will the duck and goose seasons ever be at the same time again?"
webmaster Whispers to you: no questions asked while you were gone that I can remember.
*: Your whisper was sent to MOOSECOP: no questions asked while you were gone that I can remember.
hypox: gotta go people..see ya
birddog: bye hypox
webmaster: See ya hypox
MOOSECOP: Application dates for 2000 bear is April 15 through May 15, with notifications being sent by June 15.
Trout: I hope so too,I had 100 of geese over me and all I could do is smile
birddog: that is early this year isn't it
YpsiDave: It is a great sight but sometimes that is all I see some mornings.
MOOSECOP: Ypsi, I don't foresee the dates running at the same time, especially downstate. The UP had goose and duck season running during the same time, but not the same season lengths.
*: hypox just melted into a meaningless puddle of ooze and is now gone.
MOOSECOP: Season dates are set during flyway meeting, and states have representatives that attend those meetings. If you have last year's guide, you might want to read up on the date-setting process.
YpsiDave: It is a tough questions since the state has to get teh green light from the federal folks to set the seasons.
MOOSECOP: Michigan is but a small representation on the Mississippi Flyway Council. Other states have say so as well.
MOOSECOP: The projected goose population won't become available until the surveys can be flown in Canada. Drought, flooding, etc. all play a big part.
MOOSECOP: Our headache right now comes from the St. James Bay population. Numbers have been low in recent years. Miss. Valley Pop. appear to be ok.
birddog: MOOSECOP isn't the bear application dates earlier than last year?
Trout: Moose cop can you shoot an all white turkey?
*: RealDcoy just melted into a meaningless puddle of ooze and is now gone.
YpsiDave: Being a member of Ducks Unlimited , I have hears about the St. James Bay population. What about the resident geese and their numbers?
MOOSECOP: Yes, the deadline was set forward one month.
birddog: Thats what i thought
*: You are on channel 1 with barney, MOOSECOP, Trout, jayduck, birddog, YpsiDave.
birddog: thats going to screw alot of people up
MOOSECOP: Trout, white turkeys are not protected by law such as an albino deer. You may want to use caution with a white turkey, however. Might be the farmer's Thanksgiving dinner! :)
birddog: not me since you told me early enough
Trout: Or mine
MOOSECOP: Where I hunt near Lansing, the local resident geese appear to be overabundant.
birddog: I will have to post that in the bear forum
MOOSECOP: Durign the early season, numbers appeared to be fewer than past years. Not sure if populations are coming under control or not.
jayduck: The seem to be abundent on campus also
barney: Have to go. Thanks Moosecop for the information.
webmaster: Yes jayduck. When I attended OU they were like rats on campus.
*: barney just logged off.
MOOSECOP: I was at training on Collins Road near MSU this week and there were literally thousands of ducks and geese. Sky was black at timesQ
MOOSECOP: Take care, Barney.
MOOSECOP: Feeding on manure.
birddog: Well i have to go to forums and then go work on my web page see you guys later
MOOSECOP: Well, I need to get home to my family. Been at work since 0800. Any other questions/comments before I depart?
MOOSECOP: Later, bird, woof woof
Trout: See ya
YpsiDave: Another question, this is about the Somerset SGA
webmaster: Later Moose, thanks again.
*: birddog just logged off.
MOOSECOP: Go ahead, Ypsi.
jayduck: Thanks moose.
MOOSECOP: Later, duck
YpsiDave: There is a Waterfowl Refuge that has signs that say you cannot enter before Nov 14th. Does this mean I can enter the refuge to duck hunt AFTER Nov 14th?
MOOSECOP: I believe so. Let me check the regs for that SGA really quick. brb....
*: You are on channel 1 with MOOSECOP, Trout, jayduck, YpsiDave.
*: jayduck just logged off.
YpsiDave: Thanks for answering my questions. I would have gotten on earlier but I kinda forgot. And I was already in the Forums earlier this evening!
Trout: Webmaster hope to buy a scanner sun. I will be asking how to post it may take time
*: People online now (all channels): webmaster, MOOSECOP, Trout, YpsiDave.
MOOSECOP: Ypsi, the name of the SGA scrolled off my screen. Please help. Name again?
YpsiDave: Webmaster, this is my first Chat and it seems to be a good thing for the board. Thanks for all your dedication!
YpsiDave: It is the Somerset SGA
webmaster: No problem Trout, I'll give ya all the info you need. First check on the help on the forums. You need to find someplace on the web to post your pictures for free.
*: You are on channel 1 with MOOSECOP, Trout, YpsiDave.
Trout: Such as ?
webmaster: Ah, well since I pay for my space I don't know. Do a search, there are a lot of site that will let you place your photos on them for free. Do you have AOL?
Trout: Oh buy the way thanks for drawing my name for T shirt
Trout: Msn
webmaster: No problem, it may take a week or so to get it to you.
Trout: I'll try and wear it for some pic's
webmaster: GeoCities is one site I can name right off the bat that will give you like 5M for free just for joining.
*: You are on channel 1 with MOOSECOP, Trout, YpsiDave.
Trout: OK
MOOSECOP: Appears you're correct, Ypsi. I can't find anything specific to Somerset SGA.
YpsiDave: Thanks for the info Moosecop. Stay Safe out there!
MOOSECOP: Fellas, again, it has truly been a pleasure. I always enjoy conversing with true sportsmen.
webmaster: Well guys, thanks a lot for showing up. I hope we can keep this going.
MOOSECOP: Web, maybe I can set something up with you for a monthly appearance, to address issues as the seasons change. Can you e-mail me?
webmaster: Yes, I will.
webmaster: Later.
MOOSECOP: Thanks again, guys. I'm sure my dinner is cold, but that is normal for me. God Bless the microwave!!
*: webmaster just logged off.
Trout: Webmaster I bought two bamboo rods on ebay
YpsiDave: Haha! Take care everyone!
